National award winning actor Vidya Balan expressed her disappointment in an exclusive interview for refusing to do Meena Kumari Biopic. She said, “Meena Kumari (the biopic) was offered to me immediately after The Dirty Picture but at that time, I refused because I had just played an actress. Even though I was dying to do it, I said ‘no’”.
But soon her disappointment is going to turn into delight. Yes… The Kahaani actress has been approached to do the biopic on Bollywood’s “Tragedy Queen” again. Reportedly the makers are going to narrate the script to her. After which she will decide whether she wants to do the film or not.
Earlier there were reports that, Kangana Ranaut might star in the Meena Kumari biopic and that was supposed to be directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. But this was not done. He said, “Kangana and I were ready (to do the film). But it got stuck due to the budget and rights, etc. We have the rights to the book (a biography on the actor, titled Meena Kumari — A Classic Biography), which was written by Vinod Mehta (late journalist). But to make a film on Meenaji, the book isn’t enough”.
But Tajdar Amrohi, Meena Kumari’s step son had denied the plan in casting Ranaut for the role. He said, “She is anything but Meena Kumari. My chhoti ammi was tradition personified and a strong personality. Kangana is completely opposite of her and does not suit the role”.
Amrohi is also making a film on his Chhoti Ammi names “Meenabakmaal”. In this film, 3 different actresses are playing the role in different stages of her life.
