If any other actor would have been in his place would be crying foul already. But Ajay Devgn says matter-of-factly, “Box office clashes don’t matter. It has become common and happens with almost every film. It’s just that some people voice their opinions, while others don’t.”
When asked that he had voiced his dissatisfaction when Shivaay locked horns with Ae Dil Hai Muskil- a gesture that many in Bollywood saw as an act of rebellion, he reasoned, “I am not a rebel if I voice my opinion against a wrong practice. I am honest with myself, I speak my mind and say what the truth is. I have never played the victim card and will never do that, as I am strong enough to face the situation.” he is aware that in an industry that thrives on pandering, his I-don’t-give-a-damn attitude may have cost him, friends.
He also says “I don’t feel the need to be diplomatic. I am happy the way I am. As long as I know I am right, I care a damn,” and smile.
Ajay Devgn has spent 26 years in Bollywood industry, rues that when he joined the industry that time it was close-knit, but now has changed dramatically. He also added, “Filmmaking and films have just become a business. Now, it’s about work rather than relationships” also pointed that adding new generation is completely different approach towards the profession. “They are emotional but, at the same time, very practical, because of which they are constantly evolving. Maybe I can’t be like them, but that doesn’t make them wrong.”
When the conversation veers towards his upcoming movie Baadshaho, he uncovers that the possibility of the movie germinated almost 20 years back. “Milan [Luthria] discussed the story when we were working on Kachche Dhaage . It’s kind of based on a true story. I really liked it and it was then itself that I had given my nod, but we both decided to develop the story further. Milan rigorously worked for a year-and-a-half to crack the story.”
Apart, from his acting career, Ajay Devgn is changing his roles of a producer and director. As he is quite interested in expanding his production house so for this, he is producing a film starring Farhan Akhtar and Sanjay Dutt. “Both Sanjay and Farhan have loved the script and have given their nod. Nishikanth Kamath will direct it. We intend to go on floors by the end of the year.”
