It’s been a while ever since the foreign media mistook Deepika Padukone to be Priyanka Chopra. Deepika, chose to keep mum about this till now. But Priyanka got asked about this incident in an interview yesterday where she said, “I did see that and you know that’s just ignorance and it’s not right. I guess I’m the most popular brown face that everyone has known. Every brown girl does not look the same. Don’t mistake it. Let’s try and tell us apart. That was not right and it’s not fair, she is a massive star from India.”
After this happened, Deepika thought of speaking up as well, and she called out the international press and called it as an act of racism. Deepika was present representing as the new member for L’Oreal Paris at the Cannes Collection 2017. At the press conference, she was heard saying, “It’s not just me who should be offended but each one of you should also be offended because it’s not just ignorance but also racism. Two people of similar colour are not the same people. So, you as fellow Indians should be calling them out and educating them. Instead of encouraging it, you should be educating them.”
For those who are uninitiated, a video kept floating on the internet for quite sometime where an international reporter called Deepika as Priyanka while she was stepping out of the airport. Apparently, the reporter greeted her as “Hello Priyanka”, which Deepika completely ignored at the moment. Before this incident, DP was referred as PeeCee during a promotion of her Hollywood debut ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’. The same YouTube channel uploaded a video of Deepika arriving at the Los Angeles airport and tagged it as Priyanka Chopra in the title. Even though they changed the title later, the description still read ‘Chopra’.
