We’ve always seen Ajay Devgn ace at his actions scenes and also know that he performs all of it himself other than using body doubles. And so will he yet again in his upcoming action drama, ‘Baadshaho‘. But this Milan Luthria film is going to see Ajay push his limits to further more and will see him doing complex stunts.
The stunts that Devgn is going to perform in this movie are choreographed by German action director Ramazan Bulut, who has also worked on Hollywood hits like ‘Rush’ and ‘Inferno’. A sequence in the film required Ajay to slide under an armoured truck moving at a high speed. Even after all the safe measures were taken care of, the challenge was three-fold. To start with, the gap between the truck and the road was only enough for him to fit in. Adding to the risk, barely a few inches away from Ajay’s face were the jagged rotating edges of the truck’s ‘differential’, an engine element prominent in the armoured trucks of the 70s. Last but not the least, the sequence required Ajay to simultaneously drag his feet on the ground and pull himself towards the front of the truck while looking up towards the camera.
The riskiest thing about these stunts is that the actors don’t rehearse for them. Says Milan, “You can’t practice these shots, as they add to the stress. From my vantage position on the truck, I could see that Ajay was feeling claustrophobic because of the narrow gap, the rotating wheels and blades. He doesn’t like tight spaces, though he never complains about it. I had my heart in my mouth, but he gave me a terrific shot with superb presence of mind.”
However, when the harness crew went under the truck to help the actor out, they realised that a part of his leather jacket had got stuck in the undercarriage. And much to their horror, they realised that the stuck jacket could have even put Ajay’s life in danger. Even though the actor was saved from a horrible incident, some crew members got extremely emotional.
